FireX 428 FXW-R - Smoke Alarm 120V AC Direct Wire

Description

The Firex 406, 428 and 41216 smoke alarms are ionization 120 V AC smoke alarms. These units have an 85 decibel horn, test switch and lighted power/alarm LED indicator; the LED flashes once per minute to confirm AC power. When in alarm, the LED flashes rapidly once per second. when interconnected with other Firex smoke alarms, the unit that initiates an alarm will display the rapidly flashing LED while the other interconnected alarm LEDs will remain extinguished. The 41216 includes a False Alarm Control™ feature which allows the user to quiet an unwanted alarm for up to 15 minutes.

These units mount to any single or 4" octagon junction box or square-to-round drywall ring and has 8" long pigtails with a Quick Connect harness for permanent connection. Firex AC smoke alarms are for single or multiple station use and interconnect with other Firex smoke alarms (see Technical Specifications below for interconnect quantities and compatibility). This Firex should be placed in single-family households or in each individual living unit of multiple-family buildings.

Why Install a Firex AC ionization Smoke Alarm?

They meet building code requirements where AC smoke alarms with interconnectability for up to 120 stations. with installer-focused innovations such as "Quick Connect", gasketless mounting as well as state-of-the-art production testing equipment, Firex AC ionization smoke alarms have earned their reputation as the most preferred smoke alarms among contractors.

Architectural Specifications

The smoke alarm shall be a Styleline design™ (1-3/16" high, 4-7/8" wide), powered by a 120 VAC, 60Hz source with a dual chamber ionization sensor. the alarm shall be rated at no greater than 0.5W (0.9W for the 428) in standby. Nominal sensitivity shall be measured by U.L. at obs. 1.1± 0.47%/ft. and by U.L.C. at 1.1%. Temperature operating range shall be between 40° and 100°F (4°-38°C); humidity range between 10%-93% relative humidity; 1005 solid state alarm circuits over an input range of 100-300 VAC. A power-on indicator shall be built-in lighting emitting diode which "blinks" once per minute in the standby condition. the test switch shall electronically activate the chamber to simulate smoke and check for proper operation. The electronic horn shall have a level of 85 decibels at 10 ft. the alarm shall mount to a single gang box 4" octagon junction box, or a square to round drywall ring without screw removal. It shall have a pigtail wiring, "Quick Connect" molded harness, separate mounting bracket. The False Alarm Control™ feature on the 41216 shall desensitize the alarm for 15 minutes. The red LED shall blink once every 10 seconds when in False Alarm Control™ and the alarm shall produce two short chirps 2 seconds apart at the conclusion of the desensitized period. The alarm shall have an Interconnect Protection Feature that prevents "blown" circuitry in the initiating alarm if the number of interconnected alarms is greater than the maximum limit. The 406, 428, 41216 shall meet the requirements of U.L. standard 217 and the 406(C), 428(C) shall meet the requirements of U.L.C. Standard S531.

*Item 428 is a direct replacement for model FX 1014 single station and can replace and be interconnected with models FX 1020, FX 1106, and FXW-1A.

Installation of Smoke Alarm

This smoke alarm should be installed in accordance with NFPA's Standard 72 (National Fire Protection Association, Batterymarch Park, Quincy, MA 02269) and any local codes that apply. For the AC and AC/DC direct wire smoke alarms use 18# AWG minimum solid or strand wire. When interconnecting , maximum wire length between any two is 1,500 feet for #18 AWG or 4,000 feet for #14 AWG (20 OHMS loop resistance). DO NOT connect to any other type or model of heat or smoke alarm. Connect smoke and heat alarms to a single AC branch circuit. If local codes do not permit, be sure the neutral wire is common to both phases.
